It was a picture-perfect setting for an “Endless Summer” celebration — surfers riding waves in the distance as the sun glistened off the ocean, at the same place the film’s journey started 60 years ago.

The Dana Point Film Festival kicked off with a beach party at Salt Creek on Friday, May 5, with a showing of “The Endless Summer” to mark the iconic film’s 60th anniversary.

Fans flocked to the grassy hill to watch the movie on the big screen, steps away from where in 1963, Dana Point filmmaker Bruce Brown shot the image used to inspire the movie’s famous artwork by John Van Hamersveld.
